Synopsis
This is a condensed summary of your novel of usually around two pages, which tells us:
- The type of story, e.g., a light-hearted fantasy quest or a psychological thriller.
- Main characters – names, motivations, conflicts and crises.
- Setting – we’re keen on Australia/New Zealand-based novels, but more importantly, we love a strong sense of place, wherever it may be.
- Plot – the entire main story line needs to be included, showing how the central conflict and any sub-plots are resolved.
It may go against the grain for a crime or mystery writer to give away whodunit; many synopses only hint at the novel’s ending. We ask for plot resolution because it allows us to see how your opening chapters have set up the themes and characters central to your story.
Reply
We appreciate the time and care you put into your manuscript and assure you that serious consideration will be given to your work; generally we won’t give lengthy feedback on submissions, as we want to give replies as quickly as possible.
