Announcing Café la Femme

Hungry for new mysteries? Craving comedy?

Tansy Rayner Roberts, best known as a fantasy writer, has written us a honey of a crime novel – Café la Femme.

It introduces Tabitha Darling, policeman’s daughter, professional cook and amateur detective, who’s finding love (and trouble!) in Tasmania. It will debut later in 2008 - stay posted for updates.

For a flavour of Tansy’s writing, go to her website www.tansyrr.com and be sure to read her LiveJournal, Velvet Threads, one of the wittiest and most entertaining around.

The Opposite of LifeThe Opposite of Life

Thank you to all the readers who’ve bought Narrelle M. Harris’ The Opposite of Life from one of the science fiction specialist bookshops during the last couple of months – especially those who took the time to write to us with a review. (We always love to hear your feedback on our books. Send any comments to editor@pulpfictionpress.com.au)

The great news is that it’s now available in the general Australian booktrade and you can now buy it from one of these fabulous stockists (View list). If your local bookshop isn’t on this list, then get them to order it for you from our distributors, Peribo Pty. Ltd.

Think you know all the tricks a vampire novel can play? Think again! Visit ‘The Opposite of Life’ page > Go to page >

Tomodachi: The Edge of the WorldTomodachi: The Edge of the World

The sequel is coming!  Tomodachi - The Forest of the Night will be available before Christmas, and we’re already very excited about it. Simon has also written a great new series for Random House Australia starting with Moonshadow; if you know a reader who’s still a little young for Tomodachi: The Edge of the World, then Moonshadow is for them.

The first seven chapters of Tomodachi: The Edge of the World are available on our Tomodachi page, along with teachers’ notes and cool stuff like screensavers for mobile phones and PCs. > Go to page >

Aurealis Awards 2008

Ron will be co-ordinating the Awards again this year, assisted by Diane and the Awards Management Team. We’re just about to recruit judges for the 2008 process, so if you share a passion for Australian speculative fiction and want to be involved, keep an eye out for application forms on the Aurealis Awards website www.aurealisawards.com

Submissions

Many thanks to everyone who’s sent us a manuscript – we’ve had some wonderful submissions, including several that have really tweaked our interest.

We hope that you can be patient, as we just don’t have the resources to give all of these the thorough reading they merit and get them back to you as quickly as we’d like.

Unfortunately, due to time constraints, we can’t give detailed feedback on manuscripts. If you want to get more of a critique of your work, we suggest you start off by checking out your local Writers Centre (see our links page) and having a look for workshops and writers’ groups.

As always, we’re keen to see new work, but Pulp Fiction Press is only interested in submissions from Australian or New Zealand writers – although if there’s anyone out there from New Guinea or somewhere in the South Pacific, feel free to submit! We don’t necessarily only want stories set in Australasia, but we do want to present Antipodean voices to the world. Ron Serdiuk, publisher
